Art of Giving – Voices of our Children (Part 5)

Watching Maggie Doyne’s video and her story of personal self sacrifice for the children in Nepal. She humbles me and I am reminded again that there is still so much we can do to help and so many people out there need our help. What my children have done so far, still have a long way to go compare to Maggie. She is our heros and inspiration.

Speaking of ultimate sacrifice, I note that during the blackest days of Nazi totalitarianism, a German priest (Fr. Martin Niemoller) had the courage to capture the following expression, which is today enshrined at the Washington DC Holocaust Museum:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a Socialist Then came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out, because I was not a Trade Unionist

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out, because I was not a Jew Then they came for me – and there was no-one left to speak for me

I will continue to guide and inspire my children, and indeed all members of humanity, to pursue positive action in the face of social injustice – the silent majority needs role models that go beyond intellectual engagement and display the activities that define the best of humanity.
