Heroes Don’t Wear Capes

Heros Don't Wear Capes

The doorbell rang at 9:30 this morning.  A young man in his mid-twenty carrying two brown boxes.  “Here’s your order, Madam,” he kept his distance. I said thank you before he rushed down the hallway.  I knew from the look of his sweating face behind the mask that it is going be another long day ahead of him.

Like most people, I freaked out when the government first imposed the national lockdown.  The ‘How’ questions drowned me. How to get this and that, how to survive without this and that, how can we possibly not have this and that?

Looking back to the past few weeks during the lockdown, if it wasn’t for the door to door delivery of our grocery from food stores, we would not have been able to stay well and healthy.

News that we gather everyday reminds me that the true heroes don’t wear capes, and don't have special powers.  They are not different from us, they have families too, children too. But they have chosen to put their lives at the front line and protect us from harm but risking themselves to the unknown.

My deepest gratitude to every true hero in every corner of this world who are working around the clock, losing sleep, missing family members, risking their own lives and doing their utmost best to serve others, serve us.   Salute to our true heroes!

Second thought, these true heroes do have special powers - power of love and power of putting others ahead of themselves.  Their selfless act is a reminder for us - we all have this special power to be selfless too.
